Shingles Print
Shingles Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. The virus lies dormant in the nerves that supply our skin and can be reawakened by a weakened immune system. When one has a shingles rash that has not dried up and crusted over yet, they can spread the virus to the young or old who have not already had chicken pox.  The best defense against Shingles is to keep a strong immune system through proper rest and nutrition, avoidance of excess caffeine, sugar and immune suppressing medications, and to take antiviral supplements such as vitamin C, Lysine and herbs. Vitamin D supplementation is essential to maintain immunity. Vitamin B12 injections and sublingual may help reduce the painful neuralgia of the affected skin that often persists after the skin heals. IV Vitamin C is also effective.
